Rehabilitation
for Flat Design
For my bachelor's thesis, I chose to investigate Flat Design, an interface style frequently criticized by designers, to determine whether it truly has a negative influence on graphic design. I analyzed the criticisms, the pros and cons of the style, and explored what inspired its creation in graphic design history as well as what it has inspired since.
After writing this article, I posted it online by creating a website that incorporates all the key principles of Flat Design (colorful solids, modular grid, sans-serif fonts, etc.). I also animated a GIF to illustrate the document's introduction, and finally, I used VG500 by Velvetyne for the typeface as a subtle nod to the digital field.
